Maxine Brownlee Goree died on June 16 , 2023. She was born in Lubbock,Texas to Rebekah (Riggs) and Max Brownlee on May 21, 1933.
Maxine lived the majority of her life in Plainview and Edmonson, Texas. She enjoyed women’s fashion and worked for years at Marse and Son Department store before opening her own women’s boutique, Maxine’s, in 1985.Maxine married Travis Goree in 1951 and is survived by four sons, Steve Goree and wife Jan, Greg Goree, Miles Goree and wife Connie, and Christopher Goree. She later married Wayne Houlette. Wayne’s boys are Greg and wife Sarah, Gary and wife Lisa, Scot and Bryan Houlette.
She loved her grandchildren, Shel and Paul Anderson, Tyler and Casey Goree, Carter and Stephen Sample, Jessica and Nick Goree,and Neely and Katie McHarris. Maxine also adored her great grandchildren, Carter, Margaret Ann and William Anderson, Graham and Brooks Goree, Ellis and Travis Goree, Charlotte Sample, and Reece McHarris. In addition to her family that loves her, Maxine had many longtime friends in Plainview who made her life joyful. We are thankful that a surprise birthday party, several weeks ago, brought everyone together to celebrate Maxine. Preceding her in death, are her parents, Riggs and Max Brownlee and her brother, Cliff Brownlee. She leaves behind her sweet dog, Happy, that she loved dearly.A memorial service will be held at Kornerstone Funeral Home in Plainview, Texas on Wednesday, June 21, 2023 at 2:00. A private burial will be held at a later time.Appreciation to Barbara Roybal for being a sweet friend and always taking such good care of Maxine.In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to First Presbyterian Church, Plainview or to the charity of your choice.
