Melvin Vineyard (Plainview)

Melvin Vineyard, 86, of Lubbock, passed away on Tuesday, January 19, 2021 in Lubbock, Texas. Funeral services will be held at11:00 a.m. on Friday, January 22, 2021 at First Baptist Church in Kress, Texas. Interment will follow at Kress Cemetery in Kress under the care of Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Plainview.

Melvin was born on September 14, 1934 to Ronald and Georgia Vineyard on a farm west of Kress. He attended grade school at Center Plains and then attended Kress schools where he graduated in 1951.

He helped his dad on the farm a couple of years and then was drafted into the Army and spent eighteen months in Ft. Lewis, Washington with the Second Infantry Division. He returned to the farm and farmed until 1977. He then went to work for Taylor Evans Seed Company as district sales manager. Melvin served as President of the Band Boosters, President of the Kress Riding Club, President of Young Farmers and President of So Journers Sunday School Class. He lived in Kress until 2010 when he moved to Lubbock to be closer to family. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Kress.

He is preceded in death by his parents, his sister, Oleta Alexander, two brothers, Leon Vineyard and Ben Vineyard and a grandson, Kenneth Vineyard.

He is survived by his three children, Terry Vineyard and wife Lisa, Shalene Vick and husband Perry, Monte Vineyard, all of Lubbock; eight grandchildren and several great grandchildren.
