Neva Jewel Thompson Liedtke was born on July 12, 1939 in Paducah, Texas in Cottle County to Leon Martin Thompson and Henrietta Jewel Barton Thompson and went to be with her Savior, Jesus Christ on Wednesday, January 27, 2021. Neva spent the last days of her life with loved ones. A come and go viewing will be held all day Friday, January 29, 2021. Due to COVID-19 concerns the family will not be present at the viewing. She was a loving and devoted daughter, sister, wife, mother, aunt, great aunt, Amma and Great Amma. She graduated from Paducah High School in 1957 and married William “Buddy” Norris Liedtke on May 6, 1961. While helping Buddy operate the farm, she worked as the Administrator at the local nursing home and served as the Manager of the local movie theater in Paducah, TX. After the family moved to Swisher, County Kansas, she taught 4-H embroidery and ceramics classes as well as working at the Swisher County Extension Office. She graduated cosmetology school in Liberal, KS. Neva was also a 47-year breast cancer survivor. Her greatest hobby was as a seamstress and quilter. She crafted most if not all her family’s clothes until later in life. The quality of her products rivaled any “off the shelf” clothing that could be purchased at the time. She was a member of the Garland Street Church of Christ Tuesday Quilters and adored and loved them all. Neva was a great collector of various things through her life, each of which had a special or unique memory associated with them. If you knew her well, you learned early on, “Don’t ask if you don’t want to hear her opinion”. We all loved and cherished that and many other qualities about her. Her honesty and forthrightness were always refreshing, even if you did not appreciate it in the moment. She was preceded in death by an infant sister, Patricia Thompson, her parents, Leon Martin Thompson and Henrietta Jewel Barton Thompson, son, Terry Norris Liedtke and her husband, William “Buddy” Norris Liedtke. Survivors include her daughter, Tammy Service Robinett and husband Doug of Plainview, TX; grandson Cody Norris Peitz and wife Halie and their twins, Lillie & Payne Peitz of Lubbock, TX; one brother, Larry Thompson and wife Sammy of Paducah, TX; their daughter, Leah Stewart and husband Jay and their daughter Elisabeth of College Station, TX and a grandson Justin Bridenstine of Balko, OK. The family will have a private memorial service. In lieu of flowers the family asks for memorial donations to be made in her name to local Plainview charities: PAWS Pet Adoption 500 S.W. 3rd Street, Plainview, TX 79072 or Faith In Sharing House, 504 Joliet St. Plainview, TX 79072.
