Tulia, Texas-Leenora Frances (Vaughan) McGavock was born southeast of Tulia in the Flint Community on August 29, 1925 to Will and Lula Vaughan. The youngest of four brothers and one sister, At the age of five she moved with her family to a farm fifteen miles northwest of Tulia in the Childress Community and went to the Childress school, two and ½ miles south of her home. When she was to be in the fifth grade the school consolidated to Happy, Texas. There she finished in 1942. She lived through the Depression and the dirty thirty’s and WWII.
In 1941 she met the love of her life French McGavock at the American Legion Hall in Tulia and danced to the Bob Wells records on the old juke box. On December 1, 1942 they eloped and got married at Levelland, Texas. They had sixty- four years together before his death on December 24, 2006. The Lord richly blessed them with three children: Cynthia Ann, Peggy Lynn and Dave Nelson McGavock.
In the early 1950’s she along with husband French, obeyed the Gospel and was baptized at the Church of Christ in Tulia. They went to the Church of Christ in Happy the remainder of their lives.
She spent her entire life on the farm, keeping the house in order and helping in the field. She belonged to the Home Demonstration Club where she held all offices, she was a leader in 4-H and Cub Scouts. She served as coordinator of the RSVP for 37 years. She was active in the Senior Citizens at Tulia and Happy Piecing and Quilting quilts for the center. She loved to paint pictures and loved to travel and has seen most every state.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her brothers Willie Vaughan and wife Thelma, Simmie Vaughan and wife Zora, Brill Vaughan and wife Iva Lee, Buck Vaughan and wife Glenna, her sister: Zelma and husband Weldon McClanahan and her daughter: Cynthia Starkey and husband Harold.
She is survived be her daughter: Peggy Carter and husband Kim of Tulia, her son: Dave McGavock of Happy, her grandsons: Jay Starkey of Graham, Dennis Starkey of Graham, Curtis Carter and wife Jessica of Austin, her granddaughter: Tammie Carter of Colorado Springs, CO, seven great grandchildren and numerous great, great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, May 9, 2020 at 2:30 pm in the Church of Christ in Happy with Rick Bloodworth officiating. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery in Tulia.
Arrangements are under the care of Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Tulia.
