Tulia, Texas—Norman “D” Waggoner, 91, passed away on Thursday, December 12, 2019 in Tulia. His memorial service will be held on Monday, December 16, 2019 at 1:00 pm in the Kornerstone Funeral Directors Chapel with Rev. John Gillespie officiating. Cremation services are under the care of Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Tulia.
Norman “D” was born on November 18, 1928 in Star, Texas to Wilber D. and Louise Waggoner. “D” joined the US Army from 1946 to 1948. He returned to Winters and worked for the Winters Power Plant as a lineman and later was promoted to plant manager. In 1951 “D.” was called back to the Army and was stationed in Busan, Korea and worked as a mechanic. After the army he married Nevell Fisher on June 3, 1962 in Winters, Texas. They moved to Tulia in 1967 and he ran the Tulia Power and Light Company until his retirement. He was also the Chief for the Tulia and Winters Volunteer Fire Departments. “D.” enjoyed woodworking and fishing. He was also in the Masonic Lodge for 68 years.
He is preceded in death by his parents; Wilber and Louise Waggoner, his wife; Nevell Waggoner, one daughter; DeeLynn McLaurin, one son; Jerry Waggoner.
He is survived by two daughters; Tawnya McLaurin and husband Don of Justin, TX and Laury Tanner of San Angelo, TX, two brothers; Rodney Waggoner and wife Jeanie of Mineola, TX and Bruce Waggoner and wife Sherrie of Lake Conroe, TX, 7 grandchildren; Jeremy Hudson, Travis Hudson, Ty Price, Jamie Haisler, Lindsey Woods, Shawna Whitney and Brandon Hale, 8 great grandchildren; DeeLynn Haisler, Caleb Davila, Briley Hale, Beckham Hale, Levi Whitney, Audrey Whitney, Clara Whitney and Zeb Whitney.
