Edmond resident Omer Kenneth Sharpe died August 3 in Oklahoma City after a brief illness. The Lubbock, Texas native will be interred in Plainview Memorial Park at 3:30 pm on Tuesday , August 14, 2018 with Dr. Travis Hart officiating. Arrangements are under the care of Kornerstone Funeral Directors. The son of Omer E. and Edith L. “Jo” Rudder Sharpe, Ken was born July 30, 1948. He attended the public schools, graduating from Lubbock High School in 1967. Enlisting in the Air Force, he served four years at bases in Texas and California and at Incirlik Air Force Base in Turkey. Upon his discharge in 1971, he began court reporting school in Plainview, where he met Mary Margaret Owens, a fifth grade teacher. They were married February 3, 1973 and moved to Oklahoma City where Ken was already employed as a court reporter. He served the justice system for 42 years before retiring in 2016. Ken and Mary lived in Edmond for more than forty years. He is preceded by his parents and wife. Survivors include sister and brother-in-law Donna and Herbert Heard of San Angelo, Texas; sister-in-law Estelle Owens of Plainview; brother-in-law Bo Owens of Huntington, Texas; nieces Carrie Hodges and her husband Jacques of Houston and Amanda Owens Debler and her husband Christoph of Fürth, Germany; nephew Jake Owens and his wife Amanda of Lubbock; great nieces Katie Jo and Abigail Hodges of Houston; great nephew Jack Owens of Lubbock; numerous friends; and his cocker spaniel Lady Cinnamon Grace (“Gracie”). In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to the Ken and Mary Owens Sharpe Endowed Scholarship at Wayland Baptist University in Plainview or the charity of your choice.
