On 3 April 1949, in Bryan Texas, Opal Jean Burrell affectionately known to close friends as "OJ" was born to the parentage of the late LD Sr. and Alvessie Roberts. She grew up in Bryan Texas, where she attended E.A. Kemp high school and studied piano with Ms Wyatt the neighborhood piano teacher. Opal met and married Nathaniel Dove.
She bore 4 children; Troy and Aron Dove of Ft Worth Texas, Learon Gipson of Vernon Tx, and Tonya Dove of San Antonio Texas. All of whom were left at sunset on 22 December 2018, to rejoice her life along with: 13 grandchildren, 16 Great-grandchildren, two brothers Jimmy Roberts of Hale Center,Texas and Milton Roberts of Lubbock Texas, and a host of nieces, nephews,cousins, and many many more loved ones.
She was preceded in death by her parents LD Sr. and Alvessie Roberts; 4 brothers: Tommy, LD Jr., Melvin, Henry and her only sister Velma Roberts.
Sister Opal, was a member of Lone Star Baptist Church of Hale Center Texas. She was a gospel musician. She, her sister, cousins, and sister-n-laws, formed a gospel group called the Pillars of Fire.
She worked as a nurse in the Dallas Ft Worth area for many years. Reading was a real hobby of Sister Opal, she would read, study the Bible, and meditate on God’s word for hours every day.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 P.M. Saturday, January 5, 2018 at the First Baptist Church in Hale Center. Interment will follow in the Hale Center Cemetery under the care of Kornerstone Funeral Directors.
