Tulia, Texas--Peggie Jean Yarbrough Bush born February 6, 1932 in Shinnery, passed away Feb. 24, 2020, at the age of 88.
Peggie attended school at Shinnery School, Wellington High and Bethany Nazarene College. She married Mack Bush on June 6th, 1954. They had two sons, Fred Allen and John Mack.
Peggie was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Tulia.
She was preceded in death by her husband Mack, mother Myrtle, father Fred, and sister Pauline.
She is survived by her sons, Fred Bush of Wellington, John Bush of Bryan, grandaughter Elizabeth Bush of Katy, sister Glenna Lasater and nieces and nephews.
Peggie helped her parents with the farming as a child and loved the Hereford cattle they ranched. After college she began working in education. After her marriage to Mack, they lived and she taught in Childress.
She taught piano lessons all her adult life and has had hundreds of students.
The family moved to Tulia in 1974 where she taught elementary school music and then 3rd grade for over 30 years. She played the piano and organ in church almost every Sunday for most of those years and recently played in both the Methodist and Presbyterian services each Sunday.
She was actively involved in the United Methodist Women, the Texas Retired Teachers Association, and numerous other church and social organizations. She loved to read, garden, travel and sports. She was known for her love of children and ever present smile.
A celebration of life service will be held Saturday, Feb. 29, 2020, at 10 a.m. at the First Methodist Church in Tulia and a graveside service will be held later that day in Wellington. Arrangements are under the care of Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Tulia.
The family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to organizations benefiting school music programs, the American Heart Association, or the First United Methodist Church of Tulia.
