Ralph Berriman Ellerd (Tulia)

Tulia, Texas-Ralph Berriman Ellerd, 66, passed away on Monday, October 29, 2018 in Amarillo. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am Monday, November 5, 2018 in the First Baptist Church with Rev. Charles Davenport officiating and Pastor Matthew Veals assisting. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery under the care of Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Tulia.

A visitation will be held on Sunday, November 4, 2018 from 5:30 to 7:00 pm at the funeral home.

Ralph was born on March 21, 1952 to Clarence LaVerne and Betty Jean (Myers) Ellerd in Amarillo, Texas. He graduated from Tulia High School in 1970 and later attended West Texas State University. Ralph went to work for the Continental Airlines freight department in Amarillo. After he was married, he moved to Austin and later was promoted as the head of Cargo Air Freight. After Continental Airlines filed bankruptcy, he moved to Tulia and worked as a travel agent and later a handyman for the First Baptist Church. He was a jack of all trades. He enjoyed the outdoors, loved to fish, and was fond of traveling, especially going to Alaska. Ralph was a member of the First Baptist Church of Tulia for 55 years. He loved his hometown Tulia and will be remembered as that person who had fun and always spread joy to others.

He is preceded in death by his father: Clarence LaVerne Ellerd.

He is survived by his son: Ryan Neal Ellerd and wife Janet Jones of Austin, his daughter: Jennifer Layne Summers & husband Kyle Summers of Hobbs, NM; his mother: Betty Jean Ellerd of Tulia; two sisters: Vernnetta Jean Ellerd of Comanche and Belinda Ann Giles of Olton; two grandchildren: Jacob Jones, Jasmine Jones, and a baby girl on the way; five nieces and one nephew.

Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church, 101 N. Crosby, Tulia, Texas 79088 and the Caprock Canyons State Park and Trailway, 850 Caprock Canyons Park Rd., Quitaque, Texas 79255.
