Rex Pope (Tulia)

Vigo Park, Texas--Rex Don Pope was born on September 19th, 1948 to Lonnie "Bud" Pope and Virginia Mae (Riggles) Pope. He spent most of his childhood in Floydada, Texas before moving to Deming, New Mexico to the Double Bar V Ranch, when his dad took over running the ranch. Rex grew up cowboying, roping and playing cowboy polo. While living in Deming, NM he met and married the love of his life, Janet Bixler, on August 2, 1973. In 1974 they welcomed their first child, Janet Michell, followed by Casey Don Pope in 1978. In 1980 they welcome another daughter, Christy Leigh and once more in 1984, Weslea Willard was born and completed the family.

Rex cowboyed on several ranches over the years, doing what he loved most.

He is survived by his wife, Janet of 47. 5 years, his children, Michell (Mike), Casey and wife Mandi, Christy, and husband Casey, Weslea and husband JD. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Spencer Yaste, Emma Wylie, Brodie, Rustin and Chase Pope, JD and Elizabeth Moore. He is also survived by his sister, Diana Pope.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Bud and Mae Pope, and in-laws and grandson Trevor Wylie.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm Friday, January 22, 2021 in the Vigo Park Methodist Church, burial will follow in Vigo Park Cemetery. Arrangements are under the care of Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Tulia.

A visitation will be held on Thursday, January 21, 2021 from 6:00 to 7:30 pm at the funeral home in Tulia.

In lieu of flowers please bring or send stuffed animals, crayons, and coloring books for the funeral as the family wishes to donate them to UMC Children’s Hospital in Lubbock, Texas.
