Richard “PePa” Tye

Richard Tye, our beloved husband, dad and Pepa, passed away on Tuesday, August 3, 2021. He was 79 years old. Funeral services will be held at Kress Baptist Church at 1:00pm on Friday, August 6, 2021. A few of his grandsons will be officiating the service with Martin Duckett accompanying. Interment will follow at Plainview Memorial Park under the care of Kornerstone Funeral Directors in Plainview.

A visitation will be held at Kornerstone from 5:00-7:00pm on Thursday, August 5.

Richard was born December 18, 1941 to Ben and Katheryne (Miller) Tye in Plainvew, TX. He graduated from Kress High School in 1960 and married Lynda on February 20, 1970. They were married this February for 51 years. Richard was known for his love for animals and sports. He was a big supporter of 4H. His athletic career was full of awards and achievements. Basketball was more his sport, but he didn’t mind being named to the All-American Football Team his senior year. Richard was always active in his community serving 8 years on the Kress School Board, 18 years on the Swisher Electric Board, 8 years on Tule Lake Water Conservation Board and 12 years on the Kress Farmers Elevator Board. One of his favorite things in this life was his animals, especially his cows. He loved going to check on his cows and look at the land.

Richard always had the sweetest smile that was bigger than Texas. He may have been a man of few words, but his love was huge. He had the keenest sense of humor and always had a trick up his sleeve. He always had a lap to sit on and a belly to crawl up on and take a nap. Richard was a big ole’ teddy bear of a man who was adored by all. His grandkids gave him the name “gentle giant”, and he lived that out so well. He was a big man with an even bigger heart.

He loved his wife, his children, his grands and great grands and was overjoyed to become “Pepa” to all those he loved. His greatest priority in life was his family. He was most proud of Brandon, Kim, Darren and Brent. Richard loved his children more than anything and took joy in providing for and taking care of them. These last few years he was adored by the staff at Beehive and his Hospice caretakers. Shea and the girls loved his smile and wonderful disposition. The family is eternally grateful for the way you loved and took care of our Pepa.

He is proceeded in death by his parents and his little sister Katheryn Elizabeth.

He is survived by his wife, Lynda; his sons Brandon (Vickie) Tye of Alex, Oklahoma, Darren Tye of Kress, Brent (Codee) Tye of Plainview; and his daughter, Kim (Johnny) Street of Plainview; grandchildren Dusty (Brittnee) Street of Lubbock, Travis Street of Lubbock, JuLea (Brent) Bouma of Plainview, Brooklyn (Nathan) Simon of Plainview, Kolton Owens of Plainview, Shadee Tye and fiancé Crockett Carothers of Purmela, Kaleb Tye of Plainview, Katie (Blake) Nelson of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Zaden Tye of Kress and Zant Tye of Kress; great-grandchildren BerkLea, Ellie and Johnny Bouma, Harlin and Jase Street, River Simon, Bryson Owens, and twin baby Nelsons on the way; his brother, Benny Tye of Kress; his brother-in-law, Sonny Walker and wife Carmen of Plainview and many nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests you honor Richard by making a donation to your favorite charity of choice.
