Tulia, Texas-- Robert Lee, “Bob” Compton, a long-time Tulia resident, passed away on December 8th at the age of 78. Bob was born in Seymour, Texas to James Everett and Hester Willie Compton. He was the youngest of four children and spent his early years in Olney and Graham, Texas. Bob honorably served in the US Marine Corps from 1963 - 1967. He proudly served as a helicopter door gunner and fueler in Vietnam. After serving in the military, Bob spent time as a bronc rider, worked on several ranches in North Texas, and spent many years working in the grain industry until his retirement in 2004. Bob was an extraordinarily humble, hard-working, and caring person. He was always ready to lend a helping hand and would offer the shirt off his back to someone in need in an instant. Bob was blessed with the gift of conversation and could easily visit with anyone and make them feel important. Above all, he loved his children, fishing, sharing his life stories and retirement. Bob is survived by his daughter Aubrey Cypert and her husband Dallas, grandchildren Ethan and Addison of Canyon, TX, son Stephen Compton and wife Christen, grandson Nickolas of Colorado Springs, CO, son Jay Compton and wife Jackie, grandson Hagen of Corinth, TX, and son Rusty Compton of Lubbock, TX. A private service will be held on December 19th at 2:00 pm for family and close friends. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to a charitable organization of your choice.
