Roger Phillips, 76, passed away on Monday, April 2, 2018. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Thursday, April 5, 2018 at Plainview First Assembly Church with Nelson Gonzalez officiating. Interment will follow in Plainview Memorial Park under the care of Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Plainview. A visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M. on Wednesday, April 4, 2018 at the funeral home. Roger was born June 14, 1941 to Shelby and Fay (Davis) Phillips in Plainview, TX. He graduated from Plainview High in 1959. He attended West State for one year before returning to Plainview to marry his high school sweetheart, Kaye Murphy. They were married 57 years and blessed with three children, Kevin Lynn, Kellie Denise and Keylia Kaye. Roger was a member of the Elks Lodge and also a Mason. Roger and Don Mires purchased the Donut Chef in 1979. Roger and Kaye became sole owners in 1982. After retiring from making donuts he still continued to “supervise the operations” of the shop. In the early 80’s he opened Phillips Bicycle and Mower later to be known as Phillips Small Engine Repair. People came from far and wide to get their lawn mowers, chainsaws and edgers repaired. He closed that business around 2012. His five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren were his greatest joys and pleasures. Although Roger wasn’t a big talker he was a great listener and never walked away when someone needed a shoulder to lean on or an ear to bend. He will be missed by so many including his coffee buddies at the Do-Nut Shop. He was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter Keylia in 1972, a grandson, Jarad Phillips in 2007.
