Sara Contreras (Tulia)

Tulia, Texas-Sara Contreras, 81, passed away on Monday, January 14, 2019 in Amarillo, Texas. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM, Thursday, January 17, 2019 in the Templo De Salvacion Y Alabanza Church in Tulia, Texas with Pastor Melissa Zapata and Pastor James Zapata officiating. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery in Tulia Texas. Funeral arrangements are under the care of Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Tulia.

A visitation will be held from 5:30 to 7:00 PM Wednesday, January 16, 2019 in the Kornerstone Funeral Directors Chapel in Tulia.

Sara was born on July 28, 1937 in Carrizo Springs, Texas to Daniel Aguero and Jacinta Hernandez. She traveled as a young lady and later married Jose Contreras in 1952 where they later moved to Tulia in 1956. Sara was a migrant worker and also worked as a nurse’s aide at the Tulia Nursing Home for several years. She also worked for the Tulia Royal Park until the company closed. Sara loved to cook and loved everyone. Sara was a member of the Templo Salvacion Y Alabanza Church.

She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband; her son-in-law; Adelino Garza Jr., two sisters: Asunción Ruiz Villanueva and Elvira Ruiz Gomez and one great grandson: Malaki Anthonee Venable.

She is survived by her children; Joe Contreras of Amarillo, Francisco Contreras of Tulia, Vickie Cruz & husband Fernando of Tulia,  Adolfo Contreras and wife Olivia of Tulia, Elizabeth Garza of Amarillo and Robert Mireles and wife Enedina of Tulia, one sister: Maria A. Walker of Tulia, 9 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren and  8 great, great grandchildren.
