Sherry Dellene Hoover Tunnell, 83, passed away on January 13, 2021. She was born on May 27, 1937 in Frederick, Oklahoma to Merrill and Norma Gober. She graduated from Stillwater High School in Oklahoma. She later attended Wayland Baptist University and West Texas State University. She married Melvin L. Hoover on June 26, 1955. He preceded her in death on July 14, 2003. Sherry lived in Hereford, Texas for thirteen years where she was a very active volunteer. She worked on several committees of Deaf Smith County Chamber of Commerce serving as a “Hereford Hustler”, (comparable to the Red Coats in Plainview). She served on the Deaf Smith County Child Welfare Board, (now Child Protective Services), for a number of years. She was also on the charter board for Region 1 of the Child Welfare Boards in the State of Texas and served as Secretary, and served two terms as Board President. She was recognized for services to the community by being chosen the "Deaf Smith County Woman of the Year", and honored by being awarded the "1981 West Texas State University Service Award" for her volunteer work. She also served on a committee which sponsored the Miss Hereford contest affiliated with the Miss Texas and Miss America contests. She also served on the Hereford Big Brother-Big Sister Organization. Sherry moved to Plainview in 1983 and was involved in numerous boards and committees including the remodeling committee for the Methodist Hospital of Plainview from 1995 through 1998, the National Association of Paralegals and the Soroptimist International of Plainview. She worked as a Certified Paralegal for twenty eight years. She was a member of Garland Street Church of Christ. On June 23, 2007 she married Graddy Tunnell in Plainview, Texas. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Melvin, and her sister Glynda Mills. Survivors include her husband, Graddy Tunnell of Plainview; her children, daughter Deborah Dunson of Abilene; and son Steven Hoover and wife Peggy of Flower Mound; her sister, Merrilyn Kay Powell and husband Bob of Colleyville; five grandchildren, Zach Hoover and wife Jasmine; Sam Dunson and wife Stephanie; Denielle Rampy and husband Kyle; Colin Hoover; and Caitlin Murphy and husband Jake; seven great-grandchildren, Zeb, Landon, Tynleigh, Neil, Micah, Norah and Quinn. She is also survived by Graddy’s family; Richard Tunnell and wife Anne; Jeffrey Tunnell and wife Marijo; Lindsey Tunnell and wife Susan; and 6 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
