Tulia, Texas-Shirley Armontrout, 80, passed away on Monday, March 19, 2018. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Thursday, March 22, 2018 in the Central Church of Christ. Arrangements are under the care of Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Tulia. A visitation will be held from 5:30 to 7:00 pm Wednesday, March 21, 2018 at the funeral home. Shirley was born on February 4, 1938 in Spring, Tennessee to Arch and Pearl Boggess. They moved to Claude, Texas when Shirley was six weeks old and they lived there until she was in the fourth grade when they moved to Tulia. She married David Armontrout on September 3, 1955. She graduated from Tulia High School. They lived five miles west of Kaffir Switch on the farm for 54 years. They farmed most of that time there. She was a true farmer’s wife. She was also active in W.I.F.E. (Women Involved in Farming Economics). She was a Boy Scout Leader, active in 4-H as a sewing teacher, she also was a cake decorator for the public and she worked for a clothing distribution company in Tulia. After they retired from farming they drove a truck for Jack B. Kelly all over the US and Canada. As one of his trips they hauled fuel for the space shuttle in Florida driving straight up to the shuttle with an armed guard at their side to fuel the shuttle. She also worked for Walmart for ten years. She was a member of Central Church of Christ in Tulia for over 60 years. She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, David passed away on August 2, 2009, her brother: Dixie Frank Boggess, III and her sister and brother-in-law: Louise and Gene Ray. She is survived by her daughter: Sherrie Martin and husband Mike of Tulia, her son: David Armontrout and wife Sharon of Canyon, one brother: Joe Boggess and wife Shirley of Plato, Missouri, two sisters: Geri Harman and husband Wyatte of Amarillo and Venita Yengel and husband Tom of St. Louis, Missouri, five grandchildren: Zack McCaslin and wife DeeAnn of Seward, Nebraska, Andrew McCaslin, Kevin Haynie and wife Monica of Amarillo, Rachel Martin and husband Jordon of Amarillo and Shelbie Martin of Tulia, six great grandchildren: Ellie McCaslin, Lexie McCaslin, Ryleigh Haynie, Reece Haynie, Reid Haynie and Izze Gatlin.
