Teddy Earl Assiter, 91, of Lubbock, passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 23, 2025.Ted was born on August 27, 1933, in Cone, Texas, to Thomas Elwood and Annie Margaret Assiter. He was the youngest of three sons, growing up alongside his older brothers, George and Tommy.
After graduating from Floydada High School, Ted attended Wayland and McMurry universities before realizing that college wasn’t his calling. Instead, he chose to serve his country by joining the U.S. Marine Corps, where he was stationed aboard the USS Princeton (CVS-37) aircraft carrier.
Following his military service, Ted returned home and married Mary Jo Smith. Together, they welcomed a daughter, Traci Ellen, who brought immense joy into their lives. Later, Ted married Lovetta Faye Chiles, and together they built a beautiful life, raising three children: Scott Cecil, Lori Ann, and Teddy Drue. Their 35 years of marriage were filled with love and devotion before Faye’s passing, which left all who knew her heartbroken.
Ted found comfort in his faith and dedicated himself to serving Christ. Through his work with the Kairos Prison Ministry, he met Norma “Corky” Fullingim. After much persistence on Ted’s part, the two married, and his family grew to include Corky’s three sons, Bryan, Mark, and Doug Fullingim—whom Ted loved and respected as his own.
Ted loved woodworking, and was also a passionate writer and author with a deep love for genealogy, spending countless hours researching and preserving family history. In his later years, he found joy in gathering with loved ones for poker nights every Tuesday, creating cherished memories with family and friends.
Ted is survived by his beloved wife, Corky; his children, Trae Flesher, Scott Assiter (Shelley), Lori Assiter (fiancé Melton), Drue King (Danne), Bryan Fullingim (Trina), Mark Fullingim, and Doug Fullingim (Sherri). He was a proud grandfather to Lance Freeman, Haily Wells (Lair), Amanda Assiter, Luke Freeman, Austin Fullingim (Joanna), Courtney Kattner (Collin), Brittney Rasco (Brady), Aaron Klingensmith (Casey), Haley Fullingim, Lindsey Fullingim, Allison Fullingim, and Riley Fullingim.
Ted’s legacy continues through his many nieces, nephews, and 13 great-grandchildren, who will carry on the love, faith, and strength he embodied throughout his life.
His kindness, unwavering faith, and dedication to his family and community will be deeply missed but never forgotten.
