Teresa Irlbeck Tomsu, 91, of Kress passed away on Tuesday, May 17, 2022. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 A.M. Saturday, May 21, 2022 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Father George Poonely officiating. Interment will follow in Kress at the Kress Cemetery under the care of Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Plainview.
A visitation will be held Friday, May 20, 2022 from 6:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. at Kornerstone.
Teresa Irlbeck Tomsu was born on October 2, 1930 to John and Theresa Irlbeck. She grew up in Happy and graduated from Happy High in 1949. She married Ray Tomsu Jr. April 6, 1953. They have recently celebrated 69 years together. Immediately after their wedding, Ray was drafted into the Army so Teresa returned to Amarillo National bank where she had previously worked during his 2 years of service. She was a homemaker and a farmer’s wife. She was a wonderful cook and has been passing down her recipes to her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Her passion project was to restore and beautify the Kress Cemetery with her Mu Lambda sorority sisters. She was instrumental in the completion and maintenance of the Living Veterans Memorial Monument at the Kress Cemetery. She was very active in organizing the Annual Memorial Service held. She was a Member of Saint Alice Catholic Church and the Kress Cemetery Board.
She was preceded in death by her daughter Cheryl Ann Tomsu and her parents, John and Theresa Irlbeck; eight siblings, Tony Irlbeck, Roberta Artho, Teddy Irlbeck, Al Irlbeck, Thomas Irlbeck, Cyril Irlbeck, Tom Irlbeck and Ralph Irlbeck
Teresa is survived by her husband Ray Tomsu, Jr; one son, Darrel Tomsu and wife Alanda of Kress, Texas; one daughter, Dana Tomsu of Lubbock, Texas; two grandchildren, Toby Tomsu and Shonda of Olton and Holly Johnson and Jared of The Colony; three great grandchildren, Caitlin Tomsu, Jaxon Tomsu and Jett Tomsu; one brother, Harold Irlbeck of Copperas Cove, Texas and one sister, Margie Hollabaugh of Amarillo, Texas.
The family suggests memorials to the Kress Cemetery Association, P.O. Box 194, Kress, Texas 79052.
