Thomas (Tom) Stephen Almon (Plainview)

Thomas Stephen Almon (Tom) 88, passed away on Friday, October 27, 2023 at Covenant Hospital in Plainview. Funeral services with be held on Friday November 3, 2023 at 10:30 AM at Trinity Life Church with David Patrick officiating. Tom (Tommy) was born on October 9, 1935, to Taylor Hezekiah and Cora Belle Burton Almon at home in Dallas. He was the baby of 8 children and was named after the doctor who delivered him at home. Tom attended schools in Dallas. Tom was a very gentle spirited man with a kind heart. He was loved by everyone who knew him. He had great faith in God and showed it by his actions and compassion for others. Tom and his wife Barabara were members of Trinity Life Church while living in Plainview where he served as Elder. They attended First Christian Church while living in Tulsa. He met and married his wife Barbara Walker Almon after he moved to Plainview. He married Barbara on March 16, 1960. They were married for 62 years when Barbara passed away December 2, 2022. Tom loved his only child and three grandchildren fiercely. When the great grandchildren came along, it was the icing on the cake. While living in Dallas, Tom trained at Parkland Hospital as a lab technician. He moved to Plainview in 1959 to work at the Medical Center Hospital. When the hospital closed, he continued working at the Medical Center Clinic until 1986. When he and Barbara moved to Tulsa in 1986, he worked for St. Francis Hospital until retirement. Tom served on various city boards when they lived in Plainview. He also served on Plainview City Council for 6 years in the 70’s and 80’s. He was an avid Texas Ranger’s fan. He was terribly disappointed when the Rangers games were not available on DishTV. He was forced to listen to them on the radio. Hopefully, he will be able to watch them in the World Series from heaven, the best seat available. Tom is preceded in death by his wife, his parents, five brothers; Taylor, Edward, Lester, and Bob Almon. Three sisters; Catherine Brown, Grace Sparks, and Doris Almon. His only son, Thomas Stephen Almon II, and one grandson, Thomas Garrett Schumacher. He is survived by his daughter Charlotte Almon Schumacher and her husband Mark of Plainview. Leah Schumacher of Los Colinas. Landon and Kristen Schumacher, Lillea, and Jude of Abilene. Caleb and Jodi Schumacher, Brynlee and Braylee of Idalou. Special thanks to Theresa Andrade for taking such good care of Tom after Barbara passed. Memorials can be made to Runningwater Draw Retired and Senior Volunteer Program and the Gideons.
