Vance Gandy, 76, died December 2nd at 5:45 P.M. at Lubbock Heart Hospital. He was born in Lubbock on October 1, 1947 at West Texas Hospital. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, December 6, 2023 from 4:30 to 6:30 P.M. at Kornerstone Funeral Directors in Plainview, Texas. Graveside service will be held on Thursday, December 7, 2023 at 10:30 A.M. at Parklawn Memorial Gardens. Graveside services are under the care of Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Plainview. He graduated High School in Plainview, Texas, and went to Baily Technical School in St Louis Missouri. He served in the army as a line platoon man who dynamited bunkers for the infantry. He was part of the first withdrawn from Vietnam by President Richard Nixon because he had served over 10 months there. He served from 1968 to 1970. He farmed 635 acres until he retired in 2012. He loved to race dirt bikes and participated in tractor pulls. He became a pilot in 1990 and flew his own plane. He married Glenda Grogan on October 1, 1985. Survivors include his wife Glenda, son David Gandy and spouse Mary O’Neill, niece Karen Shomaker and spouse Tom Shomaker, great nephew Bryson Shomaker, nephew Brian Gandy and spouse Jenni Gandy. Preceded in death by his mother, Pauline Gandy, father, L.R. Gandy, and brother James Gandy.
