Verda Nell Thornton (Plainview)

Born and raised in Plainview, TX on February 1, 1943, Mrs. Verda Nell Thornton was called to her heavenly home December 28, 2018. She was the only child of Mary Helen and David Belcher.

Woman of many talents, gifts, and hobbies she enjoyed sewing, collecting salt and pepper shakers and most notoriously dancing on stage with celebrities. She started her career as a barber before transitioning as a labor and delivery nurse where she retired.

She served God faithfully as a member of Emmanuel Church of God in Christ and Friendship Holy Baptist Church #2.

Preceding her in death are her parents and her husband of 51 years, Al Thornton.

She is survived by her children; Karlas Roland, (Orlando, FL) and David Thornton (Midland, TX), adopted children; Tommy Thornton (Lubbock, TX), grandchildren; Tadrianna Hernandez and husband Elijah (Corpus Christi, TX), William Roland and Marcus Roland (Orlando, FL) and great-grandchildren; Khaizaviar, Khamaria, and Khaleigha Hernandez, (Corpus Christi, TX).

Funeral services will be held 2:00 P.M. Thursday, January 3, 2019 at Jerusalem Community Baptist Church (formerly Friendship Holy Baptist Church #2) 612 Avenue A, in Hale Center with Terry Wright, Pastor officiating. Interment will follow in Hale Center Cemetery under the care of Kornerstone Funeral Directors.
