Tulia, Texas— Voncille Atchley Simpson of Tulia, Texas, passed away on December 20, 2018 after a battle with Alzheimer’s. A service of worship celebrating her life will be held at First United Methodist Church in Tulia on Thursday, December 27th, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. Visitation will be immediately following in the fellowship hall at the Church. Voncille spent most of her life serving her family and loving her friends. She loved children and enjoyed teaching Vacation Bible School and Bible Bowl for the First United Methodist Church and reading to students at Swinburn Elementary. She loved hosting beautiful showers and luncheons for others, and sharing her passion of collecting crystal and china, candleholders, napkin rings, and most importantly hats. Voncille loved playing bridge, being a member of Kaleidoscope and just being an active member of the community. She graduated from Tulia High School at age of 16 and took pride in being a 49’er. She attended West Texas State University in Canyon, TX and graduated in 1990 after returning to college when her children were grown. She was a lifelong learner and was always seeking to know more. A lover of history, Voncille took a special interest in Swisher County. She served on the board of directors of the Swisher County Museum for many years and also volunteered as a ballot counter for Swisher County during elections. She married John Earl Simpson, Jr. in 1956 and they were happily married for 48 years, before he passed away in 2005. She was a spoken-for heir of God and was accepting of all. She touched many lives with her one-of-a-kind personality and loving heart. Voncille is preceded in death by her parents, S.P. (Red) and Alpha Frances Shaffer Atchley, her brother Kelly Atchley, her husband John Earl Simpson, Jr. and her daughter, Samantha. She is survived by her daughter Celia and her husband Alex, her son John Earl (Jay) and his wife Nita, her daughter Olivia and her husband Keith, her grandchildren, Landon, Caleb, Logan, Ryan, Camille, Savanna, Cass, Randy, Kendra, Bethany and her great-grandchildren, Tristan, Ayden, Kandon, Addison, Jaedon ,Caroline, Allen, Janie, Kenzie, Kadence, Berkley and Brayson.
