Tulia, Texas-William “Bud” (Spider) Watkins, 81, passed away on Wednesday, February 2, 2022. A memorial service will be held on Friday, February 4, 2022, at 2:00 PM in the Kornerstone Funeral Directors Chapel with Mr. Lamar McBride officiating. William “Bud or Spider” Watkins was born in Madill, Oklahoma to Fannie Davis on October 21, 1940. He moved to Tulia when he was 15 where he met and married the love of his life Lena Culifer on November 19, 1965, in Plainview. Together, they had four children: one daughter Cindy and three sons Tony, William, and Roy. Bud was a hardworking fun-loving man who loved to go fishing and have barbeques. He was lovingly referred to as “Uncle Bud” by countless nieces and nephews. His granddaughters fought over who was “his favorite” and his only grandson followed “Papa” around everywhere he went. Spider never met a stranger, and he would help anyone that needed it. If you were lucky enough to call him your friend, then you knew he would do anything for you. He was an absolute warrior and fought everyday to live. He never gave up.
He is preceded in death by his mother, Fannie Davis and his brother, Lee Watkins.
He is survived by his wife; Lena Watkins of Tulia, his daughter, Cindy Watkins and Luisa of San Antonio; three sons, Tony Watkins, and William Watkins, both of Tulia and Roy Watkins and wife Jamie of Quanah, also two nieces raised as daughters; Linda Hayhurst and husband Kelly and Tina Wright and husband Tim, his grandchildren, Casey, Nancy, Bethany, Ashley, Kody, M’Kenzi, Paige, Kameron and Abigale, his great grandchildren, Jace, Kasey, Jaxon, Oaklee and Jalin.
