Yolanda Mai Ellis Job (Plainview)

Yolanda Mai Ellis Job, 88, of Plainview, Texas, walked into the arms of Jesus the morning of September 9, 2023, where perfection reigns. May she be living her best life! A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, October 2, 2023 in the chapel of Kornerstone Funeral Directors. Interment will take place prior to the memorial service at 10:30 a.m. in Plainview Memorial Park. She was born February 22, 1935 to Elmo and Yreva Mai Ellis in Plainview. She attended Texas Tech, pursuing a degree in Home Economics, where she met her future husband, Billie Lee Job from Woodward, Oklahoma. They and another couple, their best friends, eloped on September 4, 1955. Yolanda was a founding member of Delta Gamma (the Do Good Sisterhood) in 1953-54 at Texas Tech. She, along with 16 collegians and 36 patronesses were initiated on March 6, 1954. Delta Gamma celebrates its sesquicentennial this year. Yolanda was very active in the Hale County 4-H, where she won numerous local, regional and state awards, highlighted by the National Make-It-With-Wool Contest. She was invited to travel to Washington D.C., where she met President Eisenhower, wearing her prize winning, redesigned, father’s wool suit - a coordinating skirt and jacket, complemented by a hat and a purse. She was a room mother for more than 12 years, a Brownie and Girl Scout leader, a den mother for Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts. She loved her Texas roots, music, avant-garde fashion, turquoise jewelry and jewelry making, boots and jeans, and specialized in pineapple upside down cake, bread and butter pickles and sour cream enchiladas. And, her friends were as varied as her talents! Yolanda was preceded in death by her husband, Billie Job, her parents Elmo and Yreva Mai Ellis, her brother, Elowyn Ellis and her son-in-law Gary Merriman. She is survived by her daughters, Valerie Job of Levelland, and Stefani (Jonathan) Job Spears of San Antonio, Texas, and her son, Brad (Rina) Job of Benicia, California, and several cousins. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests memorial donations be sent to Hale County 4-H Chapter at 225 Broadway, Suite 6, Plainview, Texas 79072, for local scholarships.
