Tulia, Texas -Martha Ellen Hooper, 87, went to be with the Lord on Monday, March 28, 2022. Funeral services will be held on Friday, April 1, 2022, at 2:00 PM in the First United Methodist Church of Tulia with Rev. Sammy Espinosa officiating and Rev. Karan Carlton assisting. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery under the care of Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Tulia.
A visitation will be held on Thursday, March 31, 2022, from 5:00 to 7:00 PM in the funeral home.
Martha was born on December 9, 1934, near Happy on the family farm to Simmuel and Zora (Hutson) Vaughan. She was raised in Happy and was attending Happy Schools until she met the love of her life and married Benny “Joe” Hooper on June 1, 1952. They moved to Tulia where she attended Tulia High School and was a survivor of Polio during her last year of school and graduated in 1953. She worked for the Heard and Jones Drug Store in Tulia until moving in 1961 to Walsh, Colorado. Joe and Martha came back to Texas in January of 1976, where she later worked as a bookkeeper/secretary for several business. Her last job was working as a secretary at the First United Methodist Church in which she loved her church and was in the choir. She would share the love of horses with Joe. She was always doing arts and crafts, making porcelain dolls, baking wedding cakes and she had a green thumb for gardening. Martha loved her family dinners, and she was proud of her family wall that was full of portraits. She will be remembered for her beautiful smile, personality, and her hugs.
She is preceded in death by her parents; Simmuel and Zora Vaughan, her husband; Benny “Joe” Hooper, her sisters and brother-in-law; Ellouise House and Frances and Shot Hutson, her father and mother-in-law; Ben and Revellah Hooper, her brother and sister-in-law; Bobby and Edna Hooper, her sister-in-law and brother-in-law; Cletus and Rita Dobbs.
She is survived by her daughters; Jana Kay Lashmet and Dudley Hume of Amarillo and Jill Len Lashmet and husband John of Eaton, CO., her sons; Jerry Joe Langin-Hooper and wife Ann of Florida and Jim Bob Hooper and wife Deneise of Lubbock, 11 grandchildren; Stephanie Langin-Hooper, Kanan Hooper, Deidra Lashmet, Zach Lashmet, Terrance Lashmet, Tyrel Lashmet, Kayla Lashmet, Shana Lashmet, Evan Hooper, Tiffany Hooper and Bailey Palmer, 11 great grandchildren; Kaden Lashmet, Vaughan Woodward, Caleb Palmer, Braun Lashmet, Myer Stanton, Harper Lashmet, Daxton Rojas, Remy Stanton, Kolton Lashmet, Tanner Lashmet and Keira Lashmet.
